About The Position

As a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) you will provide coverage to the Emergency Department for care for victims of sexual and domestic violence. The SANE will practice per the State of New Hampshire Acute Care Protocol for Medical/Forensic Evaluation. The SANE will be directly accountable for the coordination of care including triage, medical and forensic treatment, and documentation. The position requires excellent nursing assessment skills and sensitive customer service when interacting with patients, families, medical staff, Social Services, Department of Child, Youth and Family (DCYF), Crisis Center, Law Enforcement and the legal system. The SANEs responsibilities include to sign up for the required on-call hours. It is expected that the SANE will arrive at the Emergency Department within one hour from the time you were contacted by the Emergency Department. It is expected that the SANE will maintain competency by attending educational trainings and meetings offered by the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence (NHCADSV - www.nhcadsv.org). Schedule: Hours are on an as needed basis, on-call is required. Education Graduated from an accredited School of Nursing, BSN preferred. Certification, Registration & Licensure Completion of NH SANE-A and/or SANE-P course is required Experience Emergency Department experience is strongly preferred but not required. Responsibilities Collaborates with the Emergency Department Director/Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program coordinator, hospital clinicians, New Hampshire Coalition Against domestic and Sexual Assault, local law enforcement agencies and area victim advocates in the comprehensive care of sexual assault and domestic violence patients. Bases nursing actions by applying principles of purposeful, organized thinking to make clinical judgment/decisions as it relates specifically to the management of sexual assault patients in the performance of medico-legal examination and collection of forensic evidence. Gathers data through history taking and physical assessment and interprets data in order to plan and implement interventions to meet patient care needs. Demonstrate commitment to the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program by willingness to participate in on- call rotation. Documents care provided and patient's progress toward attainment of desired outcomes. Performs quality assurance functions to include; maintenance of chain of evidence, appropriateness of documentation, appropriateness of referrals, and preparing and interpreting reports as needed. Leads the health care team. Completes requirements for continuing education specific to forensics. Uses all equipment, including cameras, in the documentation of injury and collection of evidence. Provides expert testimony in Court when called upon. Administers medications to patients. Performs job specific requirements and other duties as assigned. Requirements
