About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Pediatric Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Registered Nurse to support complex pediatric cardiac surgical procedures in Houston, Texas. This role requires specialized perioperative expertise and experience caring for pediatric patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery. Requirements

  • Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent acute care nursing experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (within required timeframe).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (within required timeframe).
  • Experience caring for patients recovering from cardiac surgery.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Prior experience in Pediatric CVOR, PICU, NICU, Pediatrics, or Mother/Baby units.
  • Children’s hospital or pediatric cardiac surgical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare pediatric patients and families for cardiovascular surgical procedures, including education and perioperative support.
  • Perform preoperative assessments and ensure readiness for surgery.
  • Manage intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification.
  • Participate in surgical safety protocols including briefings, time-outs, and debriefings.
  • Monitor patient status intraoperatively and respond to emergent situations.
  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care throughout the surgical continuum.
  • Collaborate closely with pediatric cardiovascular surgeons, anesthesia providers, perfusionists, and perioperative staff.
  • Apply critical thinking, clinical judgment, and technical skills to support safe surgical outcomes.
  • Document patient assessments, interventions, and responses accurately and thoroughly.
  • Educate patients and families regarding procedures, recovery, and follow-up care.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and uphold patient safety standards.
