The Nursing Professional Development Clinical Leader (NPD Clinical Leader) leads, facilitates and supports organizational and department level programs, committees, and projects that are essential to Nursing Professional Development Services department objectives and UVA Health’s nursing strategic goals. The NPD Clinical Leader utilizes the Nursing Professional Development Practice Model as a foundation for supporting the organization’s mission and vision. By employing the roles of learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for inquiry, advocate for NPDS specialty and partner for practice transitions, the NPD Clinical leader joins with interdisciplinary team members and healthcare partners to deliver evidence-based education and professional development. The NPD Clinical Leader performs the following job responsibilities: 1. Program Organization A. Monitor and analyze program and project specific metrics, data, and outcomes communicating to stakeholders periodically and as needed. B. Coordinates multiple projects and work streams to achieve objectives in a timely manner. C. Inter-professional and cross-department facilitation and communication is utilized to ensure coordination and progression or programmatic and organizational goals. Specific and frequent interactions include Human Resources, NPGO Clinical Leaders, and other disciplines, and ancillary support services. D. Responsible for large audience verbal and written communications adhering to UVA Health branding standards and collaborating with marketing and Communications as needed for communication support. E. Engage in budget planning and expenditures related to specific programs and projects including tracking and return on investment analysis 2. Mentor A. Identify, assign, train, and evaluate subject matter experts/healthcare professionals to present the curriculum for programs, assist with projects, and serve on collaborative committees that fall under the NPD Clinical Leader’s purview. B. Collaborates with healthcare partners and senior nursing and organizational leaders to assure ongoing progress of organizational projects, goals and objectives. C. Provides guidance and support to staff that are participating in programs and projects and assist with complex problems or challenges 3. Leadership A. Leads and participates in meetings, creating a professional network to share expertise and experiences, and further develop programs, projects, and policy that further the mission, vision and strategic plan of the department and larger organization. B. Serves as manager for direct reports, as appropriate. Interviews and coordinates hiring of new positions for Nursing Professional Development Services. Manages the operational, personnel, and financial aspects of their programs and projects. C. Lead and participate in nursing and organizational governance structures to support program and project specific initiatives D. Contributes to the review and revision of Medical Center policies and resources 4. Strategic Planning A. Demonstrates understanding of program and project alignment with nursing strategic plan and UVA Nursing Professional Development practice model. B. Serves as a consultant/mentor to clinical practice areas to help lead change through programs and projects that will optimize patient safety and positive outcomes. C. Helps assess unit/area readiness by utilizing learning needs assessment to ensure appropriate programs, resources and structures are in place to successfully maintain team member knowledge, skills, ability, and engagement. D. Regularly reviews data and program outcomes to identify areas for improvement. Identifies when additional resources are needed to support various programs and projects and communicate with nursing leadership. 5. Research A. Maintains knowledge of program or project specific evidence based best practices. B. Incorporates objective assessment of program outcomes and findings for continued improvement in the evaluation framework. Applies measurement instruments and data analysis, seeking consultation, when necessary. C. Partners with Nurse Scientists and Clinical Librarians to assist with the incorporation of evidence-based practice into programs and projects to ensure consistent use of best practices related to strategic nursing and organizational goals.
