About The Position

A healthcare facility in Wrangell, Alaska is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency / Acute Care to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care in a fast-paced emergency and acute care environment. This role requires strong clinical judgment, independent decision-making, and the ability to respond effectively in emergent situations. The RN maintains full accountability for clinical decisions during assigned shifts and collaborates closely with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, high-quality patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (ADN, Diploma, or BSN)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license (Alaska or another U.S. state)
  • Direct hires must apply for Alaska licensure prior to start date
  • Agency staff must hold an active Alaska RN license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association
  • Certifications must be obtained within 6 months of hire if not current
  • Clinical Competency (within 3 months of hire; every 3 years thereafter)
  • High-Risk Competency (within 3 months of hire; annually thereafter)
  • Knowledge of Nursing and medical practices, standards, and procedures
  • Knowledge of Hospital regulations, guidelines, and compliance requirements
  • Skills in Supervising professional and non-professional staff
  • Skills in Delivering evidence-based nursing care
  • Skills in Effective written and verbal communication
  • Ability to Make independent clinical decisions
  • Ability to Perform effectively in high-pressure emergency situations
  • Ability to Communicate professionally with patients, families, staff, and the public
  • Ability to Maintain a safe, compliant, and sanitary clinical environment

Nice To Haves

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred (required for Emergency Department nurses)
  • Prior experience in acute care, emergency services, or long-term care preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide total nursing care while ensuring patient safety during assigned shifts
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care
  • Respond calmly and effectively to emergency and high-acuity situations
  • Observe, document, and report patient condition and responses to treatment
  • Administer medications and treatments according to provider orders
  • Accurately receive and transcribe verbal and written provider orders
  • Complete admission, discharge, and transfer documentation
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Supervise and support CNAs/Technicians and other assigned staff
  • Delegate responsibilities appropriately and ensure task completion
  • Participate in staff education, training, and competency development
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of nursing standards, policies, and procedures
  • Model professional nursing practice and clinical excellence
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control protocols
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold patient rights
  • Complete incident and accident reports per policy
  • Ensure availability and proper use of clinical supplies and equipment
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, workshops, and educational sessions
