About The Position

A healthcare facility in Wrangell, Alaska is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) – Long Term Care to provide comprehensive nursing care to residents with diverse and complex medical needs. This role requires strong clinical judgment, independent decision-making, and leadership capabilities, particularly during night shifts. The RN maintains full accountability for clinical decisions during assigned shifts and supervises LPNs, CNAs/Technicians, and support staff. The position may function as Charge Nurse in the absence of nursing leadership.

Requirements

  • Education Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (ADN, Diploma, or BSN)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Licensure & Certifications Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license (Alaska or other U.S. state)
  • Direct hires must apply for Alaska licensure prior to start date
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
  • Clinical Competency (within 3 months of hire; every 3 years thereafter)
  • High-Risk Competency (within 3 months of hire; annually thereafter)
  • Experience 1–2 years of nursing experience preferred
  • Knowledge of: Nursing care processes (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation)
  • Emergency response and recognition of adverse signs and symptoms
  • Pharmacology and safe medication administration
  • Skills in: Operating and monitoring medical equipment, including AEDs
  • Performing nursing procedures and resident care
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Accurate documentation and data entry
  • Ability to: Lead and collaborate within interdisciplinary teams
  • Deliver therapeutic interventions for complex conditions
  • De-escalate high-stress or volatile situations
  • Maintain professional relationships with residents, families, and staff
  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and use of hands
  • Occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Care & Assessment Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans
  • Deliver safe, therapeutic, and efficient resident care
  • Administer medications and treatments per provider orders
  • Monitor, document, and evaluate resident responses to care
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations
  • Maintain infection control and safety standards
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Care Coordination & Leadership Coordinate resident care with physicians and interdisciplinary team members
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to LPNs, CNAs, and support personnel
  • Participate in care conferences and discharge planning
  • Serve as Contact or Charge RN when assigned
  • Ensure compliance with organizational and departmental policies
  • Education & Communication Educate residents and families regarding diagnoses, procedures, and care plans
  • Provide discharge education and aftercare instructions
  • Participate in staff orientation, mentoring, and in-service education
  • Attend required departmental meetings
  • Maintain resident confidentiality and privacy standards
  • Compliance & Professional Practice Adhere to state and federal reporting requirements
  • Maintain current licensure and required certifications
  • Complete mandatory training, competencies, and annual education
  • Follow established scheduling, attendance, and dress code policies
