About The Position

The Virginia Eye Institute is hiring! VEI is a large and dynamic practice of ophthalmologists and optometrists in the Richmond, VA area, including eight locations and an ambulatory surgery center. We are searching for a Registered Nurse for our OR. This position will work with our very busy adult and pediatric ophthalmic multi-specialty Ambulatory Surgery Center. The ideal candidate will be a team-player, self-starter, friendly, motivated, organized, and have the ability to work independently while sustaining a team environment. A caring demeanor and the ability to build and maintain patient rapport is critical. The candidate must be highly productive, eager to learn, and motivated to succeed. The ASC works four, 10 hour days, up to 40 hours per week.

Requirements

Graduate from an accredited school or nursing with current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia, required.
Previous OR or critical care experience preferred
BLS certification required, ACLS and PALS preferred (or obtain within eight weeks of start date)

Responsibilities

Maintains communication with reception areas and OR to ensure efficiency
Inventories equipment and supplies for patient needs and physician requests
Acts as a scrub or circulating nurse during operative procedures
Maintains complete and accurate records
Provides support to anesthesia providers during induction and extubation phase of general anesthesia cases
Insure that supplies are prepared for upcoming cases to include the availability of disposables and instrumentation
Insure proper handling of decontamination and and sterilization of instrumentation according to policies and procedures
Other duties as assigned
