RN - Registered Nurse - Hospital Outpatient Scheduling - Patient Appointment Center
About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to patients. This role involves scheduling outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic services and patient admissions, ensuring quick, easy, and appropriate access to all patient services at Sanford USD Medical Center. The RN communicates patient information regarding testing and procedures to clinic staff, ensures documentation of medical necessity according to regulatory guidelines, and acts as a resource for clinic staff. The position requires working with departments to resolve complex scheduling issues, adapting services to patient needs, and providing patient teaching. Candidates must possess a breadth of clinical expertise, a broad background of clinical experience, and an understanding of the growth and developmental needs of all age groups. Requirements
- Must possess a breadth of clinical expertise and have a broad background of clinical experience in addition to an understanding of the growth and developmental needs of all age groups
- Strong commitment to outstanding service and clear customer focus
- Exceptional skills in relationship building, communication, negotiation and problem solving
- Critical thinking skills, creativity, flexibility and innovation in adapting services to customer needs
- Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state
- Nurses performing nursing practice over the telephone require licensure in the states where the patients being served reside
- Any additional state licensure requirements must be obtained within first 30 days of employment
- Needs and maintains Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Obtains and subsequently maintains additional required department specific competencies and certifications
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s Degree in nursing preferred
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program preferred, including, but not limited to, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA)
Responsibilities
- Utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to patients

- Ensures documentation of medical necessity according to the regulatory guidelines applicable to Medicare Local and National Coverage Decisions
- Acts as a resource to the clinic staff regarding testing and procedures at Sanford USD Medical Center
- Works with departments to resolve complex scheduling issues adapting services to patient needs
- Provides patient teaching regarding testing and diagnostic procedures
