About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to patients. The RN schedules outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic services and patients to be admitted. This role assists in providing quick, easy, and appropriate access to all patient services at Sanford USD Medical Center. It involves communicating patient information pertaining to testing and procedures and information on accessing Sanford USD Medical Center to clinic staff. The RN ensures documentation of medical necessity according to regulatory guidelines applicable to Medicare Local and National Coverage Decisions and acts as a resource to clinic staff regarding testing and procedures at Sanford USD Medical Center. The position requires working with departments to resolve complex scheduling issues, adapting services to patient needs, and providing patient teaching regarding testing and diagnostic procedures. A strong commitment to outstanding service and clear customer focus is essential, along with exceptional skills in relationship building, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving. Critical thinking skills, creativity, flexibility, and innovation in adapting services to customer needs are also necessary.

Requirements

  • Must possess a breadth of clinical expertise and have a broad background of clinical experience in addition to an understanding of the growth and developmental needs of all age groups.
  • Strong commitment to outstanding service and clear customer focus.
  • Exceptional skills in relationship building, communication, negotiation and problem solving are necessary.
  • Critical thinking skills, creativity, flexibility and innovation in adapting services to customer needs are essential.
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program, including, but not limited to, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
  • Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
  • Nurses performing nursing practice over the telephone require licensure in the states where the patients being served reside.
  • Any additional state licensure requirements must be obtained within first 30 days of employment.
  • Needs and maintains Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains additional required department specific competencies and certifications.
