About The Position

Description Location: Mayo Building - Ambulatory Pediatrics Complex Care - RN The Pediatric Complex Care Registered Nurse (RN) provides longitudinal, relationship‑based nursing care for a defined panel of pediatric patients with medically complex and multisystem conditions. This role serves as a consistent clinical point of contact for patients and families across the continuum of care, supporting both in‑person and virtual care delivery. The Complex Care RN partners closely with complex care physicians and advanced practice providers and functions as the clinical “quarterback,” coordinating care across multiple Mayo Clinic subspecialties. The RN proactively identifies care needs, facilitates communication among teams, and ensures timely follow‑up, testing, and treatment planning to support safe, cohesive, and patient‑centered care. In addition to care coordination, the Complex Care RN provides clinical triage, symptom assessment and management, and patient and family education through in‑person visits, telephone encounters, and online patient messaging. This role requires advanced clinical judgment to assess changes in patient status, provide evidence‑based guidance, and appropriately escalate concerns to providers. The RN also supports patients referred for evaluation of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and related autonomic conditions, assisting with intake, visit preparation, symptom management, education, and coordination of care during the diagnostic process. Following evaluation, the RN plays a key role in care transitions, supporting patients and families as they return to their local providers with clear care plans, education, and follow‑up recommendations. This position is integral to optimizing patient and family experience, improving care continuity, and reducing fragmentation for children with complex healthcare needs. The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. Requirements

Graduate of a nursing program,as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
One year of RN experience required.
All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020 and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Experience working in a team environment.
Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/ Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers).
Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Nice To Haves

A minimum of two years nursing experience preferred.
Pediatric RN experience preferred.
