About The Position

This position serves as the Licensed and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist for Hui Mālama Ola Nā ʻŌiwi and is delegated to carry out the nutrition education, counseling, and demonstration programs/projects of the organization by providing professional dietetic services to individuals and groups (pediatric and adults). This position will also assist and encourage Native Hawaiians and the community to develop sound food intake habits, raise awareness of Native Hawaiian food resources, plan appropriate nutrition services and be responsible for evaluating the impact of such services on the Native Hawaiians and community health status aligned with the Native Hawaii Health Care Systems and Native Hawaiian Health Care Act. This is a part-time, 20-hour per week position (0.5 FTE) and will report to the Clinic Manager at the Family Medicine Clinic.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of community health issues, chronic diseases, and available services/resources.
  • Knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process and ability to apply all steps competently for patients' lifespan in multi-cultural communities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy, human behavior, and techniques for affecting behavioral change.
  • Critical thinking to integrate facts, informed opinions, active listening, and observations.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders, including patients, medical personnel, physicians, partner agencies, and the general public.
  • Knowledge of integrated and integrative primary care and behavioral health.
  • Computer proficiency, including knowledge of word processing, presentations, and electronic health records systems.
  • Ability to maintain ethical and professional conduct and standards.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of HIPAA Compliance.
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 40lbs.
  • Able to perform the essential functions of the position effectively and safely, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Education : Graduation from an accredited college or university with a graduate degree in Nutrition or related health field, including a master's or doctoral degree (M.S., M.A., MPH, PhD., EdD., etc.). Proof of degree completion will be required upon conditional hire.
  • Required Licenses : Active Registered Dietitian Nutritionist licenses issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and the State of Hawaii; copies must be submitted upon conditional hire and updated accordingly.
  • Experience : At least one (1) year of clinical experience conducting nutrition research and providing nutrition services to the community.
  • Other Certifications and Requirements : Current 2-Step TB clearance, HIPAA Compliance and Bloodborne Pathogens trainings (completed upon hire), CPR/AED/First Aid certification, valid State of Hawaii Driver License, ability to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for establishing, developing, supervising, conducting, and evaluating all nutrition services based on sound assessment of the clientele's nutritional needs, keeping in mind cultural appropriateness, patterns, and available resources.
  • Responsible for implementing and evaluating a comprehensive nutrition program for the organization.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge/studies in food intake habits and food resources while utilizing findings to plan appropriate nutrition services and establish and provide nutrition consultation to and with clients.
  • Plans, supervises, implements, and evaluates in-service programs on nutrition for professional and allied health staff while coordinating collaborative partnerships with other health care providers to ensure continuous nutrition services for clients.
  • Serves as the nutrition consultant and resources person to organizations in the community, including educational institutions, health-related agencies, and the media.
  • Complete thorough and timely clinical documentation in the electronic health records system, ensuring data integrity and HIPAA compliance at all times.
  • Contributes to the nutrition component of the organization under the supervision of the Clinic Manager and provides technical support to maintain program compliance with standards required for continued funding.
  • Responsible for the supervision of other staff as designated and assigned by the Clinic Manager.
  • Manage assigned projects and tasks in a timely manner, including clinical documentation.
