The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. The positions are subject to assignment throughout the State. Regular travel to IID Headquarters - Savage, Maryland for training and various assignments is required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission regulation.
  • Two years of experience supervising the work of Correctional Officers in the custody and security of adult inmates.
  • Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
  • Employees in this classification may be required to operate large vans for transportation of inmates. Employees assigned these duties will be required to acquire a Class C Maryland driver's license.
  • Employees who have not already done so must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a correctional officer during their probationary period, (Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209).
  • Employees in this classification hired or reinstated on or after July 1, 2016 shall successfully complete the Entrance Level Firearms Training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission (Code of Maryland 12.10.04.04 and 12.10.04.05) and demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis.
  • Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, must provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
  • Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Regional Intelligence Captain.
  • Conducts regular site-visits to state correctional facilities within the region assigned and interacts with institutional administrators, intelligence Officers, staff and inmates.
  • The Regional Intelligence Captain reports to the Statewide Intelligence Director and the Investigation Correctional Major.
  • Manages the facility intelligence activities discovered, reported and performed and reports data weekly and monthly for trends and to help develop action plans with the leadership team.
  • Manages the facility intelligence officers within the region and provide training, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
  • Collects, coordinates and disseminates information from within the region and prepare daily, weekly, and special intelligence reports.
  • Assesses the atmosphere within the region and identify vulnerabilities in facility operations and recommend improvements.
  • Supervises the Security Threat Group (STG) validation and renunciation process within the region and trains staff.
  • Plans and coordinates missions and interdictions within the region while coordinating with CIT, K-9 and SOG.
  • Provides timely feedback to the wardens and executive staff within the region and the Statewide Intelligence and Investigation Correctional Major.
  • Serves as the regions liaison between Federal, State and local law enforcement.
  • Develops or updates standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to intelligence functions.
