For more information visit our website: www.newportmentalhealth.org Newport Mental Health is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Human Resources (HR) Intern to join our team. As an HR Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of human resources while supporting the day-to-day functions of the HR department.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed coursework in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Psychology, or a related field
  • Able to demonstrate professional work ethic.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion

Responsibilities

  • Support full-cycle recruiting activities including posting positions, screening resumes, coordinating interviews, communicating with candidates, and maintaining accurate applicant and candidate status trackers.
  • Assist with onboarding and hiring logistics by coordinating pre-hire documentation, ensuring first-day readiness, and supporting compliance requirements related to hiring.
  • Maintain accurate and complete employee and candidate records in both paper and electronic systems, including personnel files and recruiting documentation.
  • Support HR operations through data validation for onboarding, benefits enrollment, payroll coordination, and compliance tracking, and by maintaining operational trackers (headcount, vacancies, turnover, training completion).
  • Assist with document management and version control for HR policies, SOPs, templates, and forms, and support standardization of HR operational practices.
  • Participate in hands-on HR projects with a primary focus on recruiting, with limited exposure to HR operations, compliance, and HR leadership initiatives.
  • Handle confidential information with discretion and in compliance with HIPAA, employment law, and NMH policies.
