Requirements

  • Previous managerial experience in both union and non-union environments.
  • Hotel, Guest Service, Recreation or Fitness Centre experience.
  • Working knowledge of fitness facilities, child care and pool/chemical functions.
  • Valid 1st Aid/AED and Level C CPR is required.
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Able to stand for 8 hours.
  • Able to lift heavy items – up to 25 lbs.
  • Able to lift/carry children.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule when required.
  • Must successfully complete background check.

  • Post-secondary education in recreation services is an asset
  • Second languages an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain daily control of all areas of the department – Deck 27 Adult Fitness Facility and Pool Area, Family Fun Zone Pool, Kids Centre, Club 33 Teen Centre, Camp Chelsea and Corkscrew Waterslide Birthday Parties.
  • Delegate daily tasks to all recreation colleagues and ensure appropriate follow-up.
  • Encourage all new colleagues to develop to their potential.
  • Develop qualified colleagues (CPR, 1st Aid Training, WHMIS, Health and Safety) and provide regular training within appropriate timeframes.
  • Ensure that guests, colleagues and departments are fully aware of special Recreation and in-house events/functions.
  • Ensure that all upcoming special events or service changes (ie. Pool closures, renovations, etc) are communicated to in house reservations and GRS well before hand.
  • Allow employees to measure their performance through one on ones, checklists, daily feedback and performance appraisals.
  • Maintain positive inter-departmental relationships.
  • Perform other duties as required and directed.
  • Prepare and maintain files and records for the department. This includes budget, payroll, schedules, orders (purchasing, stores and others) maintenance, supplies, and all human resource related information pertaining to Recreation colleagues.
  • Work in conjunction with marketing to prepare promotional material and develop/coordinate new programs on a yearly basis- i.e. March Break, Easter, Mothers/Fathers Day, Christmas, Summer etc.
  • Ensure that each area is staffed adequately and in accordance with the labor budget-ensuring guest service standards are not jeopardized.
  • Hold monthly departmental meetings and prepare minutes from minutes from meeting-distribute minutes to HR and Director of Services
  • Prepare monthly labor reforecast and adjustments to the Assistant Controller, develop yearly labour budgets.
  • Ensure that guest service is a priority and all colleagues are prepared to offer exceptional service to our guests.
  • Develop, encourage and monitor the maintenance of a safe, clean and enjoyable environment for guest use.
  • Develop and encourage the maintenance of an energetic and dynamic environment of all Fitness and Recreation areas.
  • Ensure all equipment and facilities are in top operating condition. Complete daily inspections of the entire department including mechanical rooms, with documented deficiencies reported to applicable departments. Complete daily follow up of all deficiencies.
  • Ensure that the pool and pool facilities are maintained in accordance with Health Department requirements.
  • Update services offered through the Recreation Department on an on-going basis to remain competitive.
  • Ensure Quality Standards are being met within department.
