About The Position

This position assists in organizing and administering a portion of the Department’s overall program of leisure and recreational activities. This position also assists the Deputy Director in program and activity scheduling and administration .

Requirements

  • High school or general education degree (GED) from an accredited institution is required.
  • Some experience in recreational activities relating to youth sports and special event activities etc. is required.
  • Some experience in scheduling and carrying out recreational programs and activities is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements except for licensure/certification requirements .
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Must be Red Cross/YMCA CPR & First Aid trained and certified.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good personal relationship with other employees and the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, City officials, other agency officials, public groups and the general public.
  • Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral forms in a responsible manner.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as financial reports, letters, and memos.
  • Must be able to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available .
  • Ability to personally relate in a positive and professional manner to adults, children and young people.
  • Ability to maintain good order in the use of community buildings and facilities.
  • Sound knowledge of safety practices in the performance of all assigned activities and programs.
  • This job requires walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, running, jumping, and driving.
  • The employee may work in an office environment or outside in various weather conditions.
  • The employee may also be required to work in or with moving vehicles .

  • Vision: 20/20 or Corrected to 20/100
  • Environment: Office Work and Outside Work in Various Conditions
  • Hearing: Normal Noise Levels for Work Environment

Responsibilities

  • Assists in scheduling, organizing and supervising a variety of leisure and recreational programs and activities under the direction of the departmental management.
  • Works with community groups, groups of young people, senior citizens and other age groups developing, promoting and implementing recreational and leisure activities.
  • Supervises volunteers as required.
