About The Position

Under general supervision, teach various levels of swimming, evaluate and communicate swimmers progress with the parents. Swim Instructors may work at any of the following locations: East Boulder Community Center, North Boulder Recreation Center, South Boulder Recreation Center, Scott Carpenter Pool, Spruce Pool. This role involves instructing children, youth and/or adults in learn-to-swim skills and techniques, evaluating and communicating swimmers progress with parents, and testing and evaluating class participants. The instructor enforces rules, regulations, and policies to maintain safety, order, and discipline. It also includes a customer relations role, interacting with parents, participants, business or program partners, and city staff to provide information and solve problems. The position requires working as part of a team, attending training, orientation, and staff meetings as needed.

Requirements

  • Ability to organize information and follow established procedures.
  • Ability to work well with children, youth and adults.
  • Ability and willingness to work scheduled hours.
  • Ability to have a clean and neat appearance.
  • Ability to demonstrate swimming at the standard for the American Red Cross learn to swim program.
  • Ability, interest, and desire to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to demonstrate tactful and effective communication skills.
  • Skills in effective interpersonal relations, including conflict resolution skills.
  • Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.
  • Previous experience working with children, youth and adults.
  • Two to Three (2-3) years of teaching experience.
  • Current American Red Cross WSI certification or in process.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to demonstrate bilingual skills.
  • Have over three (3) years of swim instruction experience.
  • Current Red Cross or equivalent CPR & First Aid certification.
  • Weekday daytime availability
