About The Position

This is professional work teaching recreational activities to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The Recreation Instructor plays a key role in supporting individuals’ physical, social, and emotional development through structured recreational programming and leisure activities. Merakey is a non-profit provider of developmental, behavioral health, and education services, supporting nearly 40,000 individuals and families throughout 12 states.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• A Bachelors Degree in Recreation Therapy, Physical Education or other related field

Nice To Haves

• WSI, Advanced Lifesaving and Adapted Aquatics Instructor Certificate is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain individuals’ gross motor, fine motor, and perceptual motor skills through structured classes and leisure activities
• Conduct assessments to support individualized recreational and therapeutic goals
• Plan, organize, and supervise therapeutic recreational programs
• Use recreation as a tool to teach cooperation, sportsmanship, and fair play
• Provide safe, engaging, and healthful recreational outlets for residents
• Support overall quality of life and well-being through meaningful activity participation
