About The Position

Under general supervision, the Recreation Instructor III (Swim Instructor) teaches various levels of swimming and evaluates and communicates swimmers' progress with their parents. Swim Instructors may work at any of the following locations: East Boulder Community Center, North Boulder Recreation Center, South Boulder Recreation Center, Scott Carpenter Pool, Spruce Pool. The role involves instructing children, youth, and/or adults in learn-to-swim skills and techniques, testing and evaluating class participants, and enforcing rules, regulations, and policies to maintain safety, order, and discipline. This position also includes a customer relations role, interacting with parents, participants, business or program partners, and/or city staff to provide information and solve problems. Swim Instructors are expected to work as part of a team, attending training, orientation, and/or staff meetings as needed.

• Ability and willingness to work scheduled hours.
• Available shifts are variable and flexible.
• Ability to have a clean and neat appearance.
• Ability to demonstrate swimming at the standard for the American Red Cross learn to swim program.
• Ability, interest, and desire to provide excellent customer service.
• Ability to demonstrate tactful and effective communication skills.
• Skills in effective interpersonal relations, including conflict resolution skills.
• Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.
• Previous experience working with children, youth and adults.
• Two to Three (2-3) years of teaching experience.
• Current American Red Cross WSI certification or in process.

Nice To Haves

• Ability to demonstrate bilingual skills.
• Have over three (3) years of swim instruction experience.
• Current Red Cross or equivalent CPR & First Aid certification.
• Weekday daytime availability.
