About The Position

The Recovery Mentor provides and coordinates recovery support services in the community for patients. This position works directly with patients and on behalf of patients to reinforce treatment goals and access resources in the community, promoting a recovery-oriented lifestyle.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must meet ACCBO's (Addiction Counselor Certification Board of Oregon) definition of a person in recovery from a substance use disorder as it relates to the recovery mentor certification.
  • Ability to be attentive to and identify high risk situations, communicating with the appropriate channels in a timely manner.
  • Ability to intervene in such a way that demonstrates sensitivity and respect while keeping a clear line of communication between supervisor and treatment team.
  • Ability to demonstrate a non-judgmental and respectful attitude with patients at all times.
  • Ability to establish rapport quickly, maintain appropriate boundaries, and remain nonjudgmental to patients.
  • Ability to utilize both oral and written communications skills to effectively communicate with patients, co-workers, community resources, supervisors, and various other individuals encountered in the course of performing work while maintaining patient confidentiality and establishing professional rapport.
  • Ability to maintain professional communications and boundaries while managing complex situations and interacting with individuals diagnosed with substance use or co-occurring conditions.
  • Ability to operate a computer, utilize basic MS Office programs, and effectively navigate and maintain patient records in an electronic medical records system.
  • Must meet MHACBO's (Mental Health and Addiction Certification Board of Oregon) definition of a person in recovery from a substance use disorder as it relates to the recovery mentor certification.
  • Obtain a Certified Recovery Mentor Certification with MHACBO within six month of hire
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Additional coursework, training, or work experience in substance abuse or detoxification.
  • A minimum of one year work experience in a clinical, medical, residential, or similar work environment as a member of a work team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients in accessing alcohol and drug free housing, medical and emergency services and other community resources, such as sourcing food, submitting rental and employment applications, and utilities assistance.
  • Assist patients meeting recovery goals.
  • Facilitate connection to the recovery community and other supports that may reinforce the goals of treatment.
  • Teach and model positive recovery behaviors while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Facilitate peer recovery and life skills groups.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with individuals and organizations in the recovery community.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, work groups, committees, trainings, and applicable community organized events.
  • Use agency network and electronic health records to document all relevant contacts with or in regard to patients.
  • Promote community integration and positive outcomes in the areas housing, employment, education, family and social support and recovery.
  • Assist in the tracking of critical data elements necessary for program reporting.
  • Accompany and drive patients to recovery related appointments.
  • Achieve outcomes using methods that align with CODA's mission and values:
  • Communicate accurately and positively about recovery and the use of evidence-based treatments.
  • Use data and science to identify barriers, overcome obstacles, and inform decisions.
  • Be financially responsible; avoid waste, document accurately, seek new opportunities to serve.
  • Demonstrate compassion and respect for others.
  • Assist the team by providing short-term relief coverage and/or basic training for other staff members.
