About The Position

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Transportation Office Assistant. Under direction of the Private Secretary, the successful candidate will perform a variety of administrative support functions and serve as receptionist for the Secretary’s Office in Chicago.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires one (1) year of related office experience.
  • Successful completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers one (1) year of experience in a public or business organization applying working knowledge of office practices, procedures and programs.
  • Prefers ability to deal with the public, outside agencies and staff in a courteous and effective manner.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as office receptionist for the Secretary’s Office in Chicago, providing non-technical information and assistance in person and by phone to representatives of other agencies, clients, the public, etc.
  • Provides administrative staff support services for the Secretary’s Office in Chicago.
  • Maintains selected files for the Secretary’s Office in Chicago.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.
