About The Position

Radio Altimeter Engineering Manager (Level K) Company: The Boeing Company The Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Avionics organization has an exciting opportunity for a Radio Altimeter Engineering Manager (Level K) to join our team in Everett, Washington. Position Overview: A Radio Altimeter Engineering Manager oversees the design, development, certification, and testing of radar-based altitude measurement systems for aircraft. These managers are critical in ensuring safety-critical navigation systems comply with evolving aviation standards, particularly in the context of 5G C-Band interference, and they often lead teams in RF systems, FPGA design, and software integration. 5G Mitigation: A major focus is upgrading legacy analog altimeters to digital, high-performance units (e.g., LRA-2100) that can withstand 5G interference, ensuring safety during landing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
  • 7+ years of engineering experience in the aerospace or similar industry
  • 5+ years of experience leading teams in a formal and/or informal leadership role
  • 5+ years in Systems Engineering or Design Engineering (e.g. Systems, Flight Sciences, Interiors, Propulsion, Safety)
  • Fundamental understanding of systems engineering principles (e.g. requirements, development assurance, and/or functional integration)
  • Ability to effectively navigate and lead a team through dynamic and ambiguous environments

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in RF/radio system development, with demonstrated experience in leading engineering teams.
  • Knowledge of FMCW modulation, antenna design, FPGA development (DO-254), and digital signal processing.
  • Deep understanding of aviation safety protocols and environmental testing (e.g., RTCA DO-160).

Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Directing the development of radio altimeter systems, digital signal processing (DSP), and hardware/software integration for altimeters.
  • Certification & Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring compliance with FAA/EASA standards, including managing technical requirements for 5G-resistant, interference-tolerant radio altimeter systems.
  • Project Management: Defining system architecture, conducting design reviews (PDR/CDR), and overseeing testing, including flight line and benchtop simulation.
  • Team Management: Leading cross-functional teams, fostering engineering excellence, and liaising with stakeholders, customers, and certification agencies.
