About The Position

The Racker position at Valmont involves a variety of tasks within a plant and yard environment. Key responsibilities include inspecting and identifying unsafe production fixtures, chains, and hooks to ensure they are properly repaired or discarded. The role requires hand wiring small to medium-sized parts onto racks for subsequent pickling or galvanizing processes. Additionally, the Racker will be responsible for pulling and placing chains and ropes around steel bundles for racking and manually moving lightweight steel pieces between different locations within the plant and yard. A crucial aspect of the job is performing functions that enhance the quality of galvanized products. The Racker will also utilize air or electric powered tools for preparing or cleaning steel before pickling or galvanizing, and will assist with general plant cleanup and housekeeping. Throughout all duties, a strong emphasis is placed on working safely to protect oneself and others from accidents and injuries.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and identify unsafe production fixtures, chains, and hooks to ensure proper repair or discard unsafe items
• Hand wire small to medium-sized parts to racks for pickling or galvanizing
• Pull and place chains and ropes around steel bundles for racking
• Move lightweight pieces of steel by hand from different locations in the plant and yard
• Perform functions to enhance the quality level of the various galvanized products
• Use air or electric powered tools to help prepare or clean up steel for pickling or galvanizing
• Assist in general plant clean up and housekeeping
• Work safely, protecting self and others from accident and injury
