The Racker position involves inspecting and identifying unsafe production fixtures, chains, and hooks for repair or discard, hand wiring small to medium-sized parts to racks for pickling or galvanizing, pulling and placing chains and ropes around steel bundles, moving lightweight steel pieces by hand within the plant and yard, enhancing the quality of galvanized products, using air or electric powered tools for steel preparation or cleanup, assisting in general plant cleanup and housekeeping, and working safely to protect oneself and others from accident and injury.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and identify unsafe production fixtures, chains, and hooks to ensure proper repair or discard unsafe items
• Hand wire small to medium-sized parts to racks for pickling or galvanizing
• Pull and place chains and ropes around steel bundles for racking
• Move lightweight pieces of steel by hand from different locations in the plant and yard
• Perform functions to enhance the quality level of the various galvanized products
• Use air or electric powered tools to help prepare or clean up steel for pickling or galvanizing
• Assist in general plant clean up and housekeeping
• Work safely, protecting self and others from accident and injury
