In this role you will be working with all platform teams from JLG at the R&D Facility. You will have the ability to design creative solutions for New Product Development Projects. This is a hands-on role with involvement on new products within JLG. You will be working cross functionally with various engineering teams to develop the products of tomorrow. SUMMARY: As an R&D Materials Technician you will be part of the R&D Design team for Access. You will be responsible for the management of parts for JLG and Jerr-Dan products in prototype build. As part of the materials team in R&D, you will be working with equipment such as fork truck, hand truck, telehandler, and other misc. hand tools along with computer-based systems.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree with five (5) years of experience in engineering, supply chain or equivalent
  • A valid Forklift, Telehandler and AWP operator license or the ability to get certified within 6 months.
  • Foresight to address potential technical issues with machine assembly, hose & cable routing and overall machine functionality.
  • Knowledge machine and industrial industry terms and definitions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, engineering drawings and 3D CAD models
  • Ability to adapt to a fast pace and fluid environment
  • Attention to detail and quality
  • Ability to manage workload and understand deliverables and project timing
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft word, excel and power point
  • Ability to travel <5%

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree with seven (7) years of experience in engineering or equivalent
  • A valid Forklift, Telehandler and AWP operator license or the ability to get certified within 6 months.
  • Certified Welder (CW) or ability to obtain certification within 30 days.
  • Experience with coaching and mentoring other technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Manage overall general Inventory Area
  • Place all received items in inventory after items have been received and placed in the system, including all prototype build parts.
  • Organize and update location information for all parts in inventory system.
  • Maintain inventory area, organization, cleanliness, and overall flow.
  • Work with Materials Lead to transition parts to off-site storage as required per space constraints.
  • Capability to utilize systems for parts processing and updating.
  • Process work orders per job requirements.
  • Utilize system to fill job requirements as parts are received.
  • Coordinate prototype machine parts and stage for build readiness. Includes shortages and past due parts, working with Assembly Lead.
  • Shuttle parts from finished processed area to ship out area.
  • Organize part shipments for outside vendor value add, including communication to purchasing POC and coordinating vendor issued PO’s.
  • Process finished parts according to shop system router
  • Ship out parts to customer, vendor, paint, etc. in a timely manor
  • Work in conjunction with fabrication materials technician on shipment of parts, part inventory transition and overall movement of parts in a timely manor.
  • Provide communication on parts shipping out to POC’s.
  • Receive parts systematically and record in inventory within a timely manor.
  • Support all assembly functions within the shop, including pulling and re-stocking parts per project.
  • Pull parts according to pull sheets for assembly team
  • Place parts on Shafer racks or skids as required by install, label for clarity.
  • Label parts in bins or with tags for easy identification
  • Re-inventory left over parts from builds back into inventory (qty and location updates)
  • Purge inventory based on direction from R&D Shop Manager
  • Cut ISL (intercompany parts transfers) as required by assembly team on an as needed basis.
  • Support standardization, advancement and implementation of a lean enterprise material flow strategy. Scope includes but not limited: KPIs, PFEP, replenishment systems, WMS, inventory control, production scheduling and IT support systems.
  • Clean shop common areas with broom, scrubbers or any means to maintain overall cleanliness. Common areas include isle ways, general areas and inventory areas.
  • Maintain working condition and cleanliness on tools, fork trucks and any equipment that may be used in material technician role.
  • Utilize fork trucks, hand trucks and other equipment for material handling needs.
  • Follow through on instructions/directions and provide constructive feedback as needed.
  • Plan and schedule daily activities to complete assignments in their order of priority to make effective use of time and ensure projects are being completed within identified timeline
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, adhering to all safety procedures during all aspects of job performance which includes regular exposure to personal and physical hazards
  • Operate heavy equipment, machinery or drive vehicles for the purpose of R&D development
