About The Position

MGK has 100+ years' of experience focusing on sustainable & environmentally conscious ways to protect families and crops from pests around the world, using our synthetic and certified organic, botanically based pesticide products. The primary function of this position is to support the company’s research and product development efforts through the execution of laboratory-based studies. This role involves performing experimental work with insects and insecticides in support of ongoing Research and Development initiatives. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work conscientiously while meeting defined project objectives and deadlines. This is a full-time, paid internship located at our Brooklyn Park location, with an hourly rate of $20/hour. The internship will run from May 26 through August 14, with some flexibility on dates depending on availability. Program Requirements Reliable personal transportation is required. Housing is not provided. This internship does not include a housing stipend or housing assistance. This internship is onsite full-time in Brooklyn Park. Primary Research Project: This position requires the successful execution of an internship-long targeted research project, in addition to daily laboratory tasks that support ongoing Research and Development studies and initiatives. The 2025 internship research project will focus on the development of test methods and optimization of in-house pest species rearing for the various markets. To effectively execute this project, a candidate for this position must work closely with laboratory personnel and scientists, communicate clearly and be willing and able to troubleshoot and use critical/creative thinking to overcome challenges in developing new rearing and testing techniques.

Requirements

  • Third-year or higher B.S. student pursuing a degree in Biology or a related life science.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, & Outlook)
  • Knowledge of and proven ability to adhere to safety rules, operating instructions and maintenance procedures to ensure occupational, regulatory and legal compliance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with insects and execution of bioassays in the laboratory is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize various testing methods for in-house beetle colony.
  • Work closely with principal investigators and laboratory personnel to execute biological efficacy trials that require the handling of insects and insecticides.
  • Assist with the development and documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory processes.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of experimental data.
  • Perform routine insect rearing and insect colony maintenance activities.
  • Assist with literature searches upon request.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
