The Quality Technician plays a critical role in protecting product quality, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency. This position is responsible for managing all returned door hardware products and components while performing routine shop floor inspections to ensure compliance with quality, safety, and operational standards. This role reports directly to the Quality Manager and supports manufacturing and distribution of door hardware products by ensuring accurate disposition of returns and consistent shop floor controls. Key Responsibilities Return Goods & RMA Management Coordinate and process returned door hardware products, components, and subassemblies (RMAs, warranty returns, nonconforming material, and supplier returns). Receive, identify, and accurately log returned items into the ERP/inventory system, ensuring accuracy of part numbers, finishes, handing, sizes, and configurations. Inspect returned hardware for damage, wear, installation issues, finish defects, or functional failures. Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Operations to determine disposition: restock, rework, refurbish, scrap, quarantine, or return to supplier. Maintain thorough documentation including inspection results, root cause notes, and disposition approvals. Support warranty analysis, supplier chargebacks, and credit recovery as applicable. Communicate findings and return status to internal teams and external customers or suppliers when required. Shop Floor Inspections Conduct routine inspections of manufacturing, assembly, and packaging areas to ensure compliance with quality standards and work instructions. Verify correct material identification, labeling, and segregation of door hardware by finish, handing, size, and SKU. Ensure nonconforming material is properly contained and clearly identified to prevent unintended use or shipment. Identify workmanship issues, process deviations, or safety concerns related to door hardware assembly and handling. Document inspection findings and escalate issues as necessary to support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Quality & Continuous Improvement Assist with internal, customer, and supplier audits related to material handling, traceability, and shop floor controls. Support root cause investigations related to returns, warranty claims, and recurring defects. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing returns, improving first-pass yield, and enhancing product quality.
