The Role A Quality Control (QC) Technician at Silver Hills Bakery is responsible for monitoring, testing, and verifying that products meet established quality, food safety, and regulatory standards throughout the production process. This role supports product consistency, compliance, and consumer safety while reinforcing Silver Hills Bakery’s commitment to high-quality baked goods.

Requirements

  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience in Quality Control or Quality Assurance within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Education: Degree or Diploma in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field is preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong computer skills, including experience with MS Office Suite (specifically Excel for data tracking).
  • Meticulous Detail: You notice the small things that others might miss, from a labeling error to a minor temperature fluctuation.
  • Integrity: You are committed to doing the right thing and ensuring safety standards are never compromised.
  • Problem Solver: You can think on your feet and help troubleshoot the root cause of quality issues.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting findings and training staff on quality protocols
  • Ability to stand for long periods and work in a production environment (which may include varying temperatures).
  • Flexibility to work different shifts as required by the production schedule.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge: Familiarity with HACCP, SQF, or GFSI standards is a significant asset.

Responsibilities

  • In-Process Checks: Conduct regular checks on the production line, including weights, temperatures, pH levels, and moisture content.
  • Sensory Evaluation: Perform organoleptic testing (taste, smell, texture, and appearance) to ensure product consistency and excellence.
  • Lab Analysis: Collect and prepare samples for microbiological and chemical testing, ensuring proper laboratory protocols are followed.
  • Auditing: Perform daily pre-operational inspections and facility audits to ensure cleanliness and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • HACCP Oversight: Monitor Critical Control Points (CCPs) and ensure all food safety documentation is completed accurately and on time.
  • SOP Enforcement: Verify that production teams are following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and intervene when deviations occur.
  • Data Entry: Maintain precise electronic and physical records of all quality tests and findings.
  • Hold/Release: Manage the "Hold" process for non-conforming products or raw materials and work with the QA Manager on final dispositions.
  • Communication: Work closely with the Production and Maintenance teams to address quality concerns in real-time.
