About The Position

The University of Florida, Department of Emergency Medicine, is seeking a Quality Officer to join their team as the administrative lead for departmental quality assurance, patient safety, and Just Culture initiatives across multiple emergency department sites. This role involves close collaboration with the Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs, the Physician Director of Quality (PDQ), and site-based PDQs to develop, implement, and sustain comprehensive quality and patient safety initiatives. The Quality Officer will lead performance improvement efforts, drive data-informed decision-making, and ensure alignment with UF Health Shands quality and service goals. The UF Department of Emergency Medicine is affiliated with UF Health Shands Hospital, a 1,162-bed teaching facility with a Level 1 trauma center and burn center, serving as the primary referral center for North Central Florida.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate area and five years of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and seven years of relevant experience
  • Experience should include experience in health care quality or performance improvement programs

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people, data, and processes within a complex healthcare environment
  • Professional licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or experience in clinical healthcare delivery or advanced knowledge of clinical healthcare delivery roles and responsibilities
  • Advanced knowledge and use of IT systems, tools, business intelligence solutions, data analysis, and reporting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of risk management processes, PDSA and rapid cycle improvement systems, and root cause analysis
  • Knowledge of analytic techniques and metrics used in analysis of healthcare data
  • Experience preparing and presenting information

Responsibilities

  • Co-lead all aspects of the department’s performance improvement (PI) program
  • Identify priorities, implement initiatives, and track outcomes across ED sites
  • Partner with interdisciplinary teams and IT to monitor data-driven patient care outcomes
  • Support faculty in designing and executing improvement initiatives
  • Lead and contribute to PI-related education and training
  • Serve as a visible leader promoting a culture of safety, quality, and accountability
  • Act as a key liaison across clinical, nursing, administrative, and medical staff groups
  • Deliver high-impact reports and communications to stakeholders
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, effectiveness, efficiency, and patient-centered care
  • Collaborate with leadership and IT teams to analyze and interpret clinical data
  • Ensure integrity, standardization, and oversight of quality data collection processes
  • Support peer review and patient safety reporting workflows
  • Contribute to scholarly work, including presentations, reports, and publications
  • Partner with Risk Management, Self Insurance Program, and Patient Experience teams
  • Assist in event review and follow-up actions
  • Provide formal and informal education on quality improvement methodologies
  • Support clinicians in improving patient outcomes, cost effectiveness, and experience
