About The Position

The Quality Manager at Current Lighting’s Christiansburg, VA facility is responsible for the overall effectiveness of plant quality systems, ensuring that all lighting products meet customer, regulatory, and company standards for performance, reliability, and safety. This role leads the site quality team, partners with operations and engineering, and drives continuous improvement in product and process quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent experience in a manufacturing quality leadership role may be considered.
  • 5+ years of quality experience in a discrete manufacturing environment (preferably electrical, electronics, or lighting products), including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing plant-level quality systems, audits, and customer/supplier quality issues.
  • Strong knowledge of quality tools and methodologies (SPC, control plans, PFMEA, MSA, capability studies, 8D, problem solving methods).
  • Proven track record leading root cause analysis and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions in manufacturing operations.
  • Proficiency with data analysis and reporting using common business and quality software (e.g., Excel, quality modules in ERP/MES, or dedicated QMS tools).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence across functions and at all levels of the plant.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in lighting, electrical components, or similar durable goods supporting commercial and industrial customers.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and customer requirements for lighting and electronic assemblies (for example, ISO 9001,applicableULor IEC standards).
  • Certification such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Manager/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt.
  • Experience with new product introduction processes in a multi-site manufacturing company.

Responsibilities

  • Own the plant quality management system (QMS), ensuring compliance with company standards, customer requirements, and applicable industry or regulatory standards.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain documented quality procedures, work instructions, control plans, and inspection/testing methods for LED commercial and industrial lighting products manufactured at the Christiansburg facility.
  • Lead all quality control and quality assurance activities including incoming inspection, in-process checks, and final product release to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Establish, track, and report plant quality metrics (scrap, rework, first-pass yield, customer complaints, warranty returns, ppm, on-time corrective actions) and use data to prioritize improvement efforts.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (RCA / CAPA) for internal nonconformances, supplier issues, and customer complaints, using problem solving tools such as 5 Whys, fishbone, FMEA, and 8D.
  • Partner closely with manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, and maintenance to define process controls, improve process capability, and prevent recurring defects.
  • Support new product introductions and engineering changes at the plant, including control plans, PFMEAs, validation plans, and production part approval processes (PPAP) when required.
  • Manage supplier quality for the site, including incoming material standards, supplier nonconformance handling, and participation in supplier audits and development activities.
  • Plan and lead internal quality audits; prepare for and host external audits from customers, certification bodies, and corporate quality.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements related to lighting products and manufacturing processes, in collaboration with EHS.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the quality team (technicians, inspectors, engineers), setting clear objectives and building a strong quality culture on the shop floor.
  • Champion continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, and problem-solving methodologies to reduce defects, scrap, warranty cost, and customer complaints.
  • Communicate quality performance, key risks, and action plans to plant leadership and corporate quality; participate in site and corporate reviews as required.
