About The Position

The Quality Informatics Performance Improvement Specialist is responsible for the evaluation and optimization of performance metrics that enhance the quality of patient care, clinical workflows and healthcare operations. This requires knowledge of healthcare practices, informatics, regulatory requirements and quality improvement methodologies to ensure accuracy of regulatory submissions and publicly reported metrics. The Quality Informatics Performance Improvement Specialist partners with hospital and medical staff in performance improvement activities required to support inpatient, outpatient, behavioral health, promoting interoperability and Merit Based Incentive Program (MIPS) regulatory quality programs. The position collaborates with the ITS teams to assure systems support quality reporting programs by analyzing and interpreting data to identify trends, issues and opportunities for improvements in clinical workflows and outcomes. Responsibilities include but, are not limited to the following:

Requirements

  • BA or BS degree is required
  • Minimum 5 years in a clinical healthcare related field with working knowledge of Electronic Health Record workflows
  • 3 years clinical data analysis
  • Active professional licensure (RN, APRN, or other Clinical Specialty) in the State of Connecticut

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Health Administration, Management or related discipline preferred

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes internal and external data to identify issues and trends that impact patient safety and quality of care. Provides enterprise oversight of regulatory quality and reporting requirements for CMS and Joint Commission and collaborates with organizational leadership and regional teams in formulating plans to address identified opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluates HHC performance in achieving all required metrics for all electronic or digital measures and submissions. Validates data for integrity and performance opportunities and leads Improvement initiatives with system and regional clinical leadership.
  • Synthesizes data with clinical knowledge and recommends strategies to improve clinical performance and enhance quality and patient safety. Collaborates with analytical teams to develop performance dashboards. Educates constituents regarding performance improvement tools and techniques e.g. PDSA methodology.
  • Reads and interprets CMS rules and other quality program requirements and keeps the organization informed of changes. Partners with key stakeholders in activities for monitoring quality of care to meet organizational objectives and external accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Participates in and/or leads designated performance improvement teams as indicated and according to the organization's strategic priorities, e.g., population-specific quality measures teams, readmission reduction, reduction of preventable harm, etc.
  • Performs quality and safety monitoring activities necessary to support clinical and administrative staff with ongoing evaluation of care processes and outcomes.
  • Functions as a system liaison for computer software systems necessary for collection and transmission of data for public reporting and national benchmarking.
