About The Position

Under the supervision of the Lead Quality Improvement Specialist, the Quality Improvement (QI) Specialist supports all programs across the organization by completing ongoing case record reviews to ensure consistency and adherence to regulatory and internal documentation standards. The QI Specialist trains staff on accurate chart documentation and provides additional support as needed. This role also requires navigating multiple electronic health record (EHR) systems to conduct reviews and support quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must demonstrate high attention to detail
  • Knowledge of Council on Accreditation guidelines and DCFS and DMH regulations
  • Must have strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and Access) and be able to independently operate a computer
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related field preferred and 2 to 3 years of relevant experience
  • Tuberculosis clearance
  • Department of Justice/Fingerprint clearance
  • Satisfactory completion of health screening
  • Proof of legal eligibility to work in the United States
  • Satisfactory driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Experience auditing charts in an outpatient or residential setting preferred
  • Experience with Department of Mental Health regulations and activity codes
  • Experience creating and managing databases

Responsibilities

  • Complete case record reviews in a thorough and timely manner for current staff caseloads, departing staff, and for audits on an ongoing basis
  • Contact and meet with staff on an ongoing basis to ensure case record review corrections are completed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Regularly meet predetermined goals for case record reviews and audit reviews
  • Update, maintain, and submit documentation in a thorough and timely manner (i.e., Case Record Reviews, Quality Service Requests (QSR), status lists, audit tools, DMH documentation and internal forms)
  • Track and monitor required credentials to prevent expiration and ensure compliance with agency and regulatory requirements
  • Attend training, department meetings, and field-based meetings as necessary; schedule and conduct QSR interviews if applicable
  • Train staff on chart documentation and provide additional support to staff who have difficulty in accurately completing chart documentation
  • Work collaborative within an across departments, including assisting with surveys and outcomes as needed.
  • Open and close the chart room and file charts as needed
  • Travel between agency locations as needed
  • Assist with frontdesk coverage as needed to ensure continuity of agency operations
  • Sensitive and responsive to the cultural differences among the agency’s client population
  • Actively participate in the quality improvement projects and initiatives
  • The QI Specialist will take on special projects or additional duties as assigned.
