About The Position

The Quality Control Technician will play a dual role in ensuring the quality and compliance of medical devices produced by our company. This entry-level position involves performing both inspections of products and components and the calibration of testing and measurement equipment. The ideal candidate will possess strong attention to detail, technical aptitude, and the ability to work in a regulated environment to support the overall quality and safety of Smith + Nephew medical devices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or technical certification in a related field is preferred.
  • 0-2 years’ experience in quality control, inspection, calibration, or a related field, preferably in a medical device manufacturing environment, is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of inspection and calibration principles and familiarity with precision measuring instruments.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and calibration standards.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods during inspection and calibration activities.

Nice To Haves

  • 0-2 years’ experience in quality control, inspection, calibration, or a related field, preferably in a medical device manufacturing environment, is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections of incoming materials, in-process products, and finished goods using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Document inspection results and test data accurately and promptly in inspection records and digital applications.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to address quality issues and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain inspection records and ensure proper documentation in compliance with FDA regulations and ISO 13485 standards.
  • Perform routine calibrations of testing and measurement equipment according to established schedules and procedures.
  • Coordinate with equipment users to minimize downtime and ensure timely calibration of all instruments.
  • Execute and document calibration activities accurately, maintaining comprehensive records in compliance with FDA regulations and ISO 13485 standards.
  • Maintain and update the calibration database, ensuring all equipment is logged and tracked correctly.
