About The Position

Walmart Central Fill Pharmacy is a specialized type of pharmacy that focuses on processing and dispensing of prescriptions for multiple retail pharmacy locations within a region. Unlike a traditional pharmacy, Central Fill is full of automation allowing prescriptions to be filled fast and accurately. But the best part of Central Fill pharmacy is taking care of our patients in the community. While we are not patient facing, our job provides retail pharmacies the ability to spend much deserved time providing clinical services and education to the communities they serve. We are hiring for a Full-time 2nd shift Quality Control Pharmacy Technician in our Central Fill in Spring, TX. Schedule: Candidates must have availability Saturday through Friday from 3pm to 3:30am.

Requirements

  • Must be currently certified as a pharmacy technician (on the PTCB website or the NHA website) and registered on the Texas State Board of Pharmacy website.
  • 6 Months’ experience in a pharmacy environment (for example, central fill, specialty, retail, mail order)
  • Meets state requirements to work as a Pharmacy Technician (for example, age, qualification, registration, certification, licensure when required by applicable State Board of Pharmacy or equivalent).
  • Holds an active/valid national certification certificate issued by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCE) or National Healthcareer Association (ExCPT)
  • 1 year’s experience performing clerical-related responsibilities (for example, filing, data entry) and computer applications (for example, email, spreadsheets, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Visio).

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), primarily Excel.
  • Performing pharmacy quality control responsibilities (for example, performing inspections, calibration) in a warehouse or retail environment

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and demonstrates knowledge of automated equipment functions (for example, operations, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting) in the pharmacy; and sustaining a calibration program for instruments and equipment in the pharmacy.
  • Assists in the identification and correction of opportunities to improve processes; conducting statistical process control and root cause analysis; and participating in projects that promote continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Maintains medication quality control by ensuring expiration dates are monitored; ensuring medications are in proper rotation; performing daily inspections and physical checks on medications and other pharmacy items.
  • Maintains quality standards, automation efficiency, and safety in the pharmacy by monitoring, testing, recording, and reacting on data pertaining to products/production and processes/quality; producing accurate results; and anticipating problems or conflicts.
  • Maintains pharmacy systems and technology (for example, inventory systems, automated medication counting machines) by preparing informational and related records and reports to ensure data accuracy and system compliance with company policies and regulations; monitoring inventory levels for medications; calibrating machines; applying settings to pill or capsule specifications to minimize breakage; ensuring medications are continuously replenished by utilizing the computer and/or scanner screen; and troubleshooting pill cell issues (for example, jamming) throughout production.
  • Maintains quality, accuracy, and integrity of inventory (for example, medications, supplies) by utilizing automated inventory control scanner and system to track and ensure the timely and appropriate delivery and stocking of medications and supplies; ensuring adherence to and documentation of inventory control procedures (for example, product strategies, product description discrepancies); auditing and testing pill cell performance according to prescribed schedules and procedures; managing pill cell information database; troubleshooting issues with pill cell performance; identifying and properly discarding hazardous waste; processing recalled and expired pharmaceuticals; and disposing or processing returns of outdated stock for credit.
  • Maintains and tracks medication inventory by sorting, placing, and storing freight in appropriate locations; restocking and replenishing medications inappropriate locations; reporting low stock levels; ensuring stock rotation on a first-in, first-out basis to assist in shrinkage control; performing inventory cycle counts; assisting with physical counts for inventories.
  • Supports facility with reporting to ensure productivity and pharmaceutical integrity by entering and modifying pharmaceutical data on systems and forms; processing and submitting paperwork; creating and maintaining documentation (for example, files, manuals, forms, records, supplies) and communications (for example, memoranda, correspondence); identifying and resolving discrepancies in record or files; preparing reports of pharmacy activities and inventory (for example, state board mandated testing of counting devices); and informing management about incorrect or inefficient processes and service procedures.
  • Delivers pharmacy products and services in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations and company policies and procedures by assisting pharmacists in the prescription fulfillment process; stocking and rotating merchandise and supplies from distribution centers and suppliers; handling pharmacy claims and returns; completing, maintaining, and securing paperwork, forms, and other required documentation; and maintaining work environment according to company policies and procedures.
  • Ensures fulfillment of pharmacy prescriptions in an automated central fill pharmacy in order to maintain a continuous and consistent work-flow to meet daily production and quality goals by using the scanner to identify and select medications and quantities for prescription orders; verifying the size and strength of medications before processing orders; verifying displays for packs and quantities; entering expiration dates and lot numbers; labeling prescriptions; weighing medications for accuracy of quantity; counting or pouring medications for prescription orders; preparing packages and distributing medications; and replenishing automated counting machines.
