About The Position

GXM is seeking to hire a Software Quality Assurance Engineer and Tester to lead quality assurance activities in support of multiple software development projects. The selected candidate will apply testing best practices to ensure high-quality software delivery, including leading the development and execution of test cases, identifying and documenting defects, and supporting resolution efforts in collaboration with development teams. The candidate will work closely with software developers, product owners, and stakeholders to ensure software requirements are fully verified and validated. This role includes guiding testing approaches and supporting the adoption of modern testing tools and technologies, as appropriate, including containerized and CI/CD-enabled environments. This is a full-time, exempt position that may be performed remotely with short-term travel as required by the project. This position will be based out of Fredericksburg, VA with occasional travel to Dahlgren, VA.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in software quality assurance or testing
  • Experience testing web front-end applications, APIs, and back-end systems
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment
  • Experience working in Linux/Unix environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
  • Experience using Jira, Confluence, or similar issue tracking and collaboration tools

Nice To Haves

  • Prior military service or experience supporting Department of War or military operations
  • Computer Science degree or related technical education, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with test case management tools such as TestRail, Zephyr, or similar
  • Test automation experience
  • Knowledge of programming or scripting languages used in test automation (e.g., JavaScript, Java, Python)
  • Ability to write SQL queries
  • Knowledge of web application UI models and internet protocols (HTTP, SSL, SOAP, XML, etc.)
  • Experience with accessibility standards such as Section 508 Compliance and WCAG 2.0 AA

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, modify, document, and execute test plans, test cases, and test scenarios based on software requirements
  • Perform manual functional testing to validate new features and identify defects
  • Perform manual API testing to validate new endpoints and identify defects
  • Conduct detailed analysis of test results found through manual testing and support the development team with the identification, escalation, and resolution of related risks and issues
  • Utilize testing knowledge and experience to advise leadership on the progress of testing activities
  • Work closely with technical leads and product owners to develop plans, schedules, and present time estimation for testing activities to be performed
  • Update and maintain test specifications and test plans via source control software
  • Configure, administer and troubleshoot software test environment
  • Contribute in sprint planning, sprint review, backlog refinement, and retrospective meetings
  • Ability to manage, mentor, and coach junior testers and provide guidance on best practices in software testing
