About The Position

The QCC / Sample Processor role ensures efficiency, operational conformance, product quality & food safety, and continuous improvement within the site. This position functions as a member of an area team, which is directly responsible for the efficient production of quality products. This role is responsible to conduct quality verification protocols to ensure that all finished products meet with Mars Quality and Food Safety Specifications. Primarily focusing on Food Safe and Legal conformance, these Quality Conformance associates enable conformance to specification through the verification of execution in quality control protocols and/or monitoring of sampling and testing plans applied to packaging and product. This resource also enables the reduction of food safety incidents and non-quality costs by the immediate escalation of any out of conformance condition detected during verification activities. Also, this role supports the maintenance of quality knowledge and skills required in operation associates for proper execution of quality control protocols and proper data documentation and records keeping. Operational non-quality related activities are out of the scope of this role such machine operator’s reliefs. This role supports the implementation of the Global Chocolate Micro Verification Standard through the collection, organizing and processing of samples from environmental to WIP to Finished Product. This position must have the skill set to train other Associates in the area on quality documentation as needed. This job requires strong communication, interpersonal and team building skills to support site objectives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience within a manufacturing environment and/or previous quality control experience in a food-related industry.
  • General knowledge of Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills are essential as these associates often serve as a coordinator of information between functions and across levels of the business
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively
  • Must be able to work at elevated heights
  • Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes from hot to cold, dust, dirt and chemicals
  • Computer/Technical Savvy
  • Works proficiently in: Excel, Nexus, Win SPC, Microsoft Office, Outlook, SAP, etc.
  • Ability to establish good peer relationships.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a group setting.
  • Ability to repetitively bend and/or squat to complete floor environmental swabs on a weekly basis

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for shift-based quality verification or monitoring activities for in-process, finished product, and packaging. Initiate NCMGTs in Nexus for quality non-conformities. Collect raw and/or finished goods samples to support a variety of activities such as the Daily Connection Point Quality Review meeting, micro verification program, product library, Sensory program and hold dispositioning. Verify conformance of finished product attributes, product variables and product defects following quality approved standards and procedures. Verify proper execution of packaging GRD and Code dates monitoring protocols to ensure correct packaging is used and product traceability is not compromised. Verify weights and sensory data in the WINSPC system against the production schedule.
  • Escalate to process areas, any out of conformance incidents and collaborate in trouble shooting providing all information needed on product quality attributes until process and product are back in control.
  • Identify and isolate out-of-specification materials, including placing product on hold, initiating non-conformances and escalating to the correct associates. They are expected to collaborate closely with Material Handling area to ensure all non-conforming products are captured in house.
  • Performs GDSN audits as required for each new item at the site and on an annual basis.
  • Verify calibration program activities to ensure overall QMP compliance.
  • Verify procedures to complete quality related documentation are properly executed and information in the records is complete.
  • This role may be included in the HACCP team and / or Internal Auditors group to support quality and food safety continuous improvement program and CAPA’s execution.
  • Escalate to process areas, any out of conformance incidents and collaborate in trouble shooting providing all information needed on product quality attributes until process and product are back in control.
  • Identify and isolate out-of-specification materials, including placing product on hold, initiating non-conformances and escalating to the correct associates. They are expected to collaborate closely with Material Handling area to ensure all non-conforming products are captured in house.
  • Performs GDSN audits as required for each new item at the site and on an annual basis.
  • Verify calibration program activities to ensure overall QMP compliance.
  • Verify procedures to complete quality related documentation are properly executed and information in the records is complete.
  • This role may be included in the HACCP team and / or Internal Auditors group to support quality and food safety continuous improvement program and CAPA’s execution.
  • Support operations with locating metal in confirmed rejects and trending the number of rejects across the shift to ensure proper escalation. Support operations through KAPPA trained evaluation of finished product attributes and product defects per shift escalation.
  • Provide coaching and training to Associates to ensure proper execution of quality control protocols, QMP understanding , data accuracy and proper record management control.
  • Collaborate with Quality & Food Safety to complete all QFS sampling tasks including environmental swabs including indicator swabbing of Zone 1 and Zone 2 surfaces after a cleaning has been performed, Zone 3 and Zone 4 swabs, supporting allergen swabbing and this role may be asked to complete pre and post clean vector swabs.
  • Keeps detailed logs and is able to maintain accurate records of sample collection and Sample Analysis Request Form for sample submission.
  • Provide quality related information to operators to enable quality control activities. This includes On-Line Sensory and WINSPC results verification.
  • Provide support for incident investigations and customer/consumer complaints to enable proper risk assessment and issue resolution.
  • Observe and coach proper entry of weights into the WINSPC system by line operator.
  • Support Testing & Conformance administration, partnering with QFS Team.
  • Perform inventory concessions and sample pulling administration, partnering with QFS Team.
  • Perform label verifications administration, partnering with QFS Team.
  • System setup for new product / SKU, with verification by QFS
  • Support QFS Team with Annual Validations as needed (Metal Detection, Allergen Changeovers).
  • Responsible for Shift Conformance Administration
  • Support document change control routing / communications as well as cross-shift controlled document training.
  • Provide Benchtop / Line Trial sampling support.
  • Performs weekly Food Defense Mitigation Walk Inspections, conducts random pocket checks of contractors and associates.
  • Performs post clean line inspections and completes inspection documentation.
  • Collaboratively works as a team to maintain sampling materials inventory.
  • Performs post clean re-validations on the metal detectors.
  • This role is part of the Sensory Conformance Panel.

  • The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is between the range listed below, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position will include variable pay, medical and dental benefits, participation in 401k plan, and paid time off benefits.
