About The Position

SOMOS CST is a family-owned small business in Colorado Springs specializing in fine grinding and polishing extremely delicate glass components for the medical, defense, optics, and green tech industries. We’re seeking gentle-handed, detail-oriented QA Technicians who take pride in precision work. The ideal candidate will enjoy hands-on, methodical work and can visually identify surface imperfections while carefully handling fragile materials throughout all stages of production. As an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), we provide comprehensive grinding and polishing solutions for clients in high-performance sectors, including precision optics, electronic sensors, watchmaking, and renewable energy — including EV, solar, and fuel cells. The Quality Assurance Technician plays a hands-on role in inspecting and processing ultra-thin, delicate glass components. This position requires a careful, methodical approach to ensure materials are handled safely and meet strict quality standards. Strong visual acuity, steady hands, patience, and a gentle touch are essential for success in this role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 40 hrs/week, Mon–Fri, 2nd shift, occasional weekends
  • Excellent hand–eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to focus on repetitive, detail-oriented tasks
  • Self-motivated, team-focused, and reliable
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to specialized processes
  • Successful completion of a probationary training period

Nice To Haves

  • Backgrounds in quality inspection, assembly, production, optics, jewelry, electronics, laboratory, or other precision-based work
  • Previous Quality Control/Inspection experience is a PLUS !
  • Proficiency with hand tools, gauges, and mechanical aptitude is a plus
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or structured processes for quality and efficiency
  • Ability to follow precise written and verbal instructions

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspect ultra-thin glass material to identify surface defects and other imperfections
  • Handle extremely delicate parts with precision and care to minimize breakage
  • Test optical components for dimensional accuracy, transmissive properties, and surface quality
  • Measure, inspect, and document results to exacting specifications using equipment such as vernier calipers and micrometers
  • Understand and ensure contract requirements in accordance with regulatory agencies
  • Operate diamond wire saws, lapping, and polishing equipment (training provided)
