About The Position

Headquartered in Lincoln, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating nine institutions statewide, in which approximately 5,800 individuals reside. The department’s focus includes programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, reentry services, and community programs. NDCS is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). The successful candidate will model the NDCS values of integrity, respect, compassion, growth, and excellence as we accomplish our mission: Keep people safe. This position plays a vital role in the development and oversight of NDCS’s educational services. The Quality Assurance Specialist will ensure that NDCS educational programs meet established standards and maintain compliance with Title II AEFLA funding requirements. This work directly supports NDCS’s mission by enhancing service quality that can impact recidivism and lead to successful reintegration. Requirements

  • Associate degree in public or business administration, accounting, or any discipline related to the work assigned.
  • One year of experience in administrative, business management, or technical support work including collecting and interpreting statistical, financial, program, or administrative data; or interpreting laws, rules, regulations, and processes.
  • Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam and, at a randomly announced time, a drug test.
  • Once at the Staff Training Academy, candidates must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, behavioral science, human services, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • Experience in adult education, career services, or correctional programming.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills; experience in program auditing or quality assurance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct classroom and program audits to ensure fidelity, compliance, and quality.
  • Develop and implement program procedures, tools, and tracking systems for quality assurance activities.
  • Identify, adapt, and implement performance standards in collaboration with education leadership.
  • Develop and recommend revisions to NDCS policy and protocols based on observations/findings.
  • Collaborate with NDCS Research.
  • Evaluate education program effectiveness.
  • Measure outcomes related to reentry and recidivism reduction.
