The Quality Assurance Manager provides strategic leadership over all quality, food safety, and regulatory compliance functions within a USDA/FDA‑regulated soup manufacturing facility. This role serves as the site’s quality authority, ensuring compliance with USDA‑FSIS, FDA, SQF, Organic, and customer requirements, while partnering closely with Operations, Product Development, Supply Chain, and Corporate leadership to protect consumer safety, brand integrity, drive continuous improvement, and strengthen food safety culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, Microbiology, or related discipline
  • 5 plus years of progressive experience in Quality or Food Safety leadership within a USDA‑regulated food manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in USDA‑FSIS regulations, SQF, HACCP, and audit management
  • Proven ability to influence cross‑functional leaders and manage regulatory interactions

Nice To Haves

  • SQF Practitioner and/or PCQI certification
  • Experience with Seafood HACCP
  • Experience in RTE food or soup manufacturing
  • Familiarity with labeling systems and automated printing (e.g., Videojet)

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and governance of the site Quality and Food Safety Management Systems, including HACCP/FSMA, GMPs, SOPs, and SQF.
  • Act as the primary site representative to USDA‑FSIS, third‑party auditors, customers, and regulatory bodies, including management of inspections, audits, non‑conformances, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure product compliance through oversight of pre‑shipment release, laboratory evaluation, deviations, product holds, and disposition decisions.
  • Lead supplier quality and performance programs, including approvals, corrective actions, and audit strategy.
  • Own customer complaint management, including investigations, sensory evaluation, root cause analysis, and trend reporting.
  • Establish and communicate quality performance metrics, including scorecards, VPM reporting, environmental and microbiological trend analysis.
  • Provide quality leadership for new product development and trials, ensuring regulatory compliance, risk identification, and validation activities.
  • Oversee labeling, packaging, and formulation change controls to ensure regulatory and customer compliance.
  • Lead SQF management reviews, mock recalls, internal audits, and food safety training programs.
  • Build and lead a high-performing QA team through effective mentorship, accountability, hiring, onboarding, performance management, and ongoing capability development.
  • Champion a proactive food safety and quality culture across the facility aligned with business priorities and plant WIGs.
