About The Position

The Quality Assurance Inspector is responsible for performing inspections across all commodities to ensure products meet Ocean Mist Farms’ quality standards. This role supports daily harvesting operations, evaluates product condition, and provides recommendations to maintain product quality from field to shipment. The position is based in Castroville, California, with seasonal travel and temporary relocation to remote growing regions will be required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training in quality, food safety, or related areas is required
  • 1–3 years of experience in quality assurance, produce inspection, or a related field preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English; bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Basic math and analytical skills to support product evaluation and reporting
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s and be insurable, with the ability to operate a company vehicle
  • Ability to travel and temporarily relocate to remote locations (e.g., Oxnard, Coachella, Yuma) is required
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to make consistent, objective quality assessments
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across operations, sales, and field teams

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality inspections on all commodities harvested daily, including externally sourced products from California, Arizona, and Mexico
  • Respond promptly to requests for inspection of specific product lots
  • Evaluate and rate products based on Ocean Mist standards, including weight, color, condition, appearance, packing, and temperature
  • Provide recommendations to the Quality Assurance Manager regarding cooling, icing, packaging, carton selection, and palletizing
  • Prepare and maintain inspection reports, including daily, aging, and raw product inspections
  • Conduct pre- and post-harvest field observations and support shelf-life studies as needed
  • Partner with Sales to verify and address quality concerns related to incoming product
  • Assist with preparation and coordination of product for exhibitions, fairs, and conventions
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying quality trends and opportunities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
