About The Position

In collaboration with the Health Services Administrator and the interdisciplinary team, the Quality Assessment and Infection Control Nurse works as a leader in quality improvement initiatives and Infection Preventionist for the organization. Major responsibilities of the position include quality assessment and assurance, surveillance and infection control, and leading/initiating performance improvement projects within the quality assurance program. Participates in on-call rotation as a nurse leader within the healthcare team.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Licensed as an RN in the State of Virginia.
  • Minimum five years of experience as a Registered Nurse.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in computer software such as Word and Excel. Experience with the electronic medical record.
  • Prefer at least one year of experience or additional course work or certification in infection control.
  • Prefer two to three years of experience with data collection, tabulation, analysis, interpreting and reporting of findings.
  • Must communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Prefer two to three years of experience working with the elderly.

Responsibilities

  • Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team in identifying residents at risk for adverse outcomes and identifying measures by which those outcomes might be avoided/improved.
  • Track on a weekly basis pertinent quality measures – resident falls, falls with injury, pressure ulcers, and weight loss.
  • Receive, analyze, interpret and prepare facility reports and occurrences, including medication error reports, incident reports and unusual occurrence reports.
  • Effectively and efficiently utilizes multiple methods of data collection to obtain information on resident care, unit functioning, internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct and document investigations of unanticipated or sentinel events under the Department of Health standards.
  • Coordinate and lead monthly Quality Assurance meetings; prepare agenda, receive reports from individual departments and document corrective action plans.
  • Update, develop and implement policies and procedures related to quality improvement.
  • Conduct on-going surveillance using Center of Disease Control (CDC) infection criteria, documentation, and investigation of nosocomial infections.
