About The Position

The Purchasing Assistant provides support and assistance to the Technical Sourcing Manager in procuring goods and services for both all manufacturing facilities ensuring that critical items are delivered on time, in the correct quantity, at the best price. The position works closely with Purchasing management to ensure the most efficient sourcing of quality items and accurate and timely processing of all transactional documents.

Requirements

  • Student in AAS or BA/BS program in Supply Chain Management / Business or related field required.
  • Availability to work at least 20 hours up to 40 hours per week.
  • General knowledge of purchasing procedures and strategies
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Possess a positive “can-do” attitude.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Performing vendor research and selection to enhance profitability, reducing operating costs and boosting efficiency.
  • Maintaining cordial working relationships with vendors and supervising vendor activities.
  • Using quarterly and annual data to determine purchasing needs and performing inventory management.
  • Creating and managing purchasing orders as assigned, overseeing schedules and maintaining purchase records.
  • Working with Operations staff to ensure deliveries and purchase orders do not have discrepancies.
  • Conducting ongoing market research to identify beneficial purchase agreements and potential vendors.
  • Contacting vendors to obtain information such as specifications, quotations, etc.
  • Conducts quoting of various items and commodities as required. Including compilation of multiple quotes (market testing) and analysis of results. Assists Purchasing Manager in the preparation of all required sourcing recommendations.
  • Processes purchase requisitions and purchase orders in a timely manner; expedites orders as necessary.
  • Sources new suppliers for equipment, parts and/or services under the direction of the Purchasing Manager.
  • Assist plant personnel with implementation and compliance of indirect purchasing policy.
  • Contribute to the cost savings goals
  • Procures purchased components as assigned.
  • Supports and adheres to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to established quality management system (TS 16949).
  • Follows all safety rules and procedures in the performance of this position’s duties and reports any unsafe practices to the supervisor.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
