About The Position

The Pump Service Technician candidate will complete duties delegated by the Operations Manager. This includes, but is not limited to, start-up and commissioning of pumps, rotating and auxiliary equipment. Service and repair of pumps, rotating and auxiliary equipment. This effort involves regular contact with the end users, contractors and occasionally with specifying engineers who specify our equipment. Our expectation is for the service technician to be performing start-ups, repairs, general repair of pumps, service and repair and job task estimating, timely communication with the scheduler of the daily work progress, custodian of company trucks, tools, equipment, and supplies, as well as monitoring of his/her own billings, costs, and inventory. Office and administrative support provided by inside administrative personnel. The successful candidate will perform other related duties as required and assigned.

  • Must have a good personal image, have empathy for the customer and the customer’s problems, and be willing and be proactive to do, within reason, what is required to solve problems for the customer.
  • Must respond promptly and efficiently when called upon by our personnel or the customer, in order to promote the goodwill of the company and to assist in the improvement of sales. Must be a “self-starter” and exhibit a high level of output with minimal supervision. We believe our company is very good at what we do by having self-motivated personnel that are very good at what they do. A commitment to excellence is expected.
  • Must display a willingness to learn, and to expand in the position. Must be willing to learn and receive instruction on proper service/repair skills and techniques.
  • Must be very detailed in paperwork. We service equipment which is a part of a larger system. It is very important and, therefore, expected and required that our service personnel provide quotations, service reports, start-up reports, warranty claims and other evaluations detailing our work sufficiently to avoid misunderstandings between our work and the project requirements or customer expectations.
  • Must have or learn computer skills. All employees are encouraged to become reasonably proficient with Word, Excel and CRM, our contact management program. Factory equipment selection and pricing programs are also utilized.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Strong people and customer service skills in a professional setting.
  • Strong Microsoft skills and knowledge including Manufacturer sizing program.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently and perform with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to apply knowledge to customer’s current and future needs.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to produce detailed but concise quotations pertaining to customer requirements
  • A valid driver's license is required. Must be insurable with no major infractions. Job will require travel.
  • Completed High School diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of technical school, community college or trade school
  • Computer knowledge a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Experience, understanding and proficiency with, operation, maintenance and repair of pumps, rotating and auxiliary equipment.
  • Capable of Disassembly and inspection of pumps, rotating and auxiliary equipment with the understanding of their design and construction.
  • Capable of evaluating and identifying cause and effect of damage and failure. Access signs of potential problems with pumps, i.e.: runout, leakage, and scaling, pitting, corrosion, erosion, cavitation and bearing and seal failure analysis.
  • Adhere to established protocols and procedures with regards to documenting and reporting requirements.
  • Cleaning of pump components along with inspection, estimating the cost of rebuilding the equipment to as new condition, meeting or exceeding manufacturers specifications
  • Mechanical failure diagnosis, alignment, and system trouble shooting, in shop and facilities repair, field and onsite repair and startups.
  • Troubleshooting of the electrical controls, valves, motors and safety devices.
  • Capable of reading and understanding electrical and mechanical drawings, along with the ability to make modifications to the equipment per these drawings.
  • Must be safety minded and a team player.
  • Must be technology friendly.

  • Must be able and willing to work the hours necessary to fulfill the needs and expectations of the position and our customers.
  • Must have good knowledge in appraising the customer’s service needs for the repair of various products including pumps and accessories. Must be willing to further your knowledge in these areas and any others that will be applicable for our company.
  • Must have the ability to provide some pump sizing and application support as needed on various systems to assist in proper equipment operation and selection.
  • RFM in-house and formal factory training will be provided on a scheduled basis. The Service technician maintains responsibility to seek the necessary level and frequency of training from the company’s resources in order to become proficient in these areas.
  • Time in the field with our sales personnel is expected in order to develop an understanding of the contractor, engineering and competitive requirements of our industry. We believe these skills are essential in order to provide the maximum benefit to our customers by having a superior knowledge of product applications and operation. This process will maximize service volume and service margins.
