About The Position

The Pima County Health Department, Women Infants and Children program (WIC), is seeking a motivated and team-orientated Public Health Aide to join our team. Duties for this position include answering phones and scheduling appointments, conducting WIC income certifications, and obtaining anthropometric and hemoglobin levels for WIC participants. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal communication and listening skills. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certification (required for certification in capillary finger punctures) AND three months of experience in a health related or social services setting. (Proof of High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certification must be provided at time of application.)
  • At least nine semester hours or 18 quarter hours of college-level course work from an accredited college or university in the areas of medical terminology, health care skills, human anatomy and physiology, medical office procedures, medical transcription, nutrition, public or community health, or related medical or social services training.
  • Valid driver license is required at time of application.
  • Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college education.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Experience and skill in the use of computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite, and data entry.
  • Minimum six (6) months experience providing direct customer service in-person or over the phone.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support for clinical field operations and immunization and health equity outreach programs, and ensures the availability of diagnostic and related equipment by clinicians
  • Serves as the first point of contact for clients, provides clients with educational information including, but not limited to Covid-19 and TB, determines eligibility for enrollment in the program, establishes clients’ specific healthcare requirements, and schedules medical appointments
  • Facilitates the collection and processing of laboratory specimens such as urine samples, blood samples, and swabs
  • Processes and maintains the security and confidentiality of patients’ information in the eClinicalWorks database and other management systems, including the Arizona State Immunization Information System (ASIIS)
  • Utilizes HANDS software to issue eWIC cards to participants in the WIC program to enable them to purchase supplementary foods and infant formula at participating stores and pharmacies
  • Maintains knowledge about evolving public health information on the safety and efficacy of vaccines, specifically for Covid-19
  • Administers transfers of patients to the clinic from other clinics, and refers existing clients to other public agencies and programs for additional services as required
  • Conducts home visits to identify clients and provide program-specific outreach services.
