About The Position

Under the supervision of the WIC VP/Manager, the WIC Dietician/Nutritionist is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating WIC Program activities related to nutrition education and overall program delivery. The WIC Dietician/Nutritionist is responsible for providing staff training as well as hands on learning opportunities and mentoring of clinic staff. This position may require relocation/reassignment to any of our clinics based on business needs. Flexibility and willingness to relocate are required. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in dietetics or nutrition

  • Skill in operating computer databases
  • English and Spanish preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and calculate mathematical figures
  • Experience in health care services
  • Posse’s excellent communication skills for interviewing participants
  • Facilitating group nutrition education classes and communicating with staff through mentoring opportunities and providing effective feedback
  • Practices in a manner consistent with legal and ethical standards including WIC Regulations
  • Knowledge of programs available that support nutritional and other health issues 
  • Ability to travel and/or provide coverage to multiple clinic locations

Responsibilities

  • Must attend and complete training as required by the State of Nevada WIC Administration
  • Provides individual nutrition counseling of high-risk participants and develops nutrition care plans using the SOAP format
  • Acts as a team player within the WIC clinics through determining WIC eligibility, assisting with appointment scheduling, phone calls, checking in participants and providing WIC benefits
  • Acts as a team player within the WIC clinics by assisting with the certification process to include anthropometrics, assessing growth status, hematology, dietary assessment, nutrition counseling and prescribing food packages
  • Enter appropriate data into the WIC application and documents certification, counseling, and referrals using the appropriate forms
  • Promotes breastfeeding in a positive manner to WIC participants and Community Partners; provide breastfeeding education, support and breast pump issuance
  • Facilitates group nutrition education classes in a participant centered manner
  • Conducts staff training with any new implementations of risk codes
  • Acts as a preceptor to WIC competent professional authority trainees (CPATs) and to CPAs
  • Mentor CPA trainees through the CPA on-line training modules
  • Provide coaching and mentoring opportunities to enhance learning of CPATs and CPAs
  • Emphasizes and explains the importance of high risk codes
  • Answer questions and provide directions and advice
  • Provide opportunities for observational learning
  • Evaluate hands on learning activities by completing the CPA Training Modules and skills checklists with the trainees
  • Administer CPA Training Module quizzes and proctor the final practical exam
  • Provide on-going mentoring opportunities for all staff; conduct staff assessments as well as provide effective feedback for enhancing skills
  • Refer participants for services to other community agencies and document in participant record
  • Identify staff needs and participate in and provide in-service training on those needs at staff team meetings
  • Attend workshops, meetings and conference calls as needed or required by the position
  • Evaluate and provide training on nutrition education materials to be used in the WIC clinics
  • Attends and assists with community events
  • Keeps up to date with WIC policies and procedures
  • Keeps up to date with state, county and local programs essential for NVHC and WIC target populations
