About The Position

This position provides customer service and clerical support to the Aquatics Division of the Park and Recreation Department. This description is intended to indicate the essential functions and levels of work difficulty of the position and is not intended to describe in detail all of the position's specific duties and responsibilities nor exclude other duties of similar level or difficulty. Additionally, it is not intended to limit management's rights to assign, direct, and control the work of employees beyond the essential functions under their supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in an office environment.
  • Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483.
  • Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic; office procedures, practice and equipment; policies, procedures and work of the aquatics division; safe working practices; principles and practices of facility rules, policies and procedures; public relations skills.
  • Skill in using personal computers, facsimile machines, ten-key adding machines, cash registers, and telephones.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; work independently with minimal supervision; operate common office equipment; type a net of 45 words per minute; make mathematical calculations; review written communication with accuracy; communicate with individuals both in person and over the phone; perform varied clerical work and office procedures in compliance with standard office practices; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public; count cash and make change accurately and quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Answers telephones and takes messages.
  • Exhibits tact and courtesy in dealing with members of the public and referring them to the appropriate departmental staff member to resolve their problems or answers their questions.
  • Takes and records registrations and payments for classes, services and fees. Maintains and monitors the registration records.
  • Prepares daily deposits and correspondence for the aquatic coordinator and assistant aquatic coordinator.
  • May be responsible for opening and closing the pool and racquetball facility.
  • Reports any unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Prepares flyers related to facility programming.
  • Monitors and responds to the needs of patrons - especially youth.
  • Schedules and monitors court reservations and play.
  • Handles equipment rentals.
  • Prepares class rosters.
  • Assists the aquatic coordinator and the assistant aquatic coordinator in the preparation of statistical data and research.
  • Supports the head lifeguard in monitoring facility, needs of patrons and safety concerns in the absence of the aquatic coordinator and the assistant aquatic coordinator.
