The WVU Medicine Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute (RNI) and the Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry are recruiting a psychiatrist to be named the Moghadam Family Endowed Chair in Psychiatry & Neurodevelopment. Ranks available are Associate Professor or Professor. The successful candidate will practice in Morgantown, WV. Transforming Care for the Neurodivergent Population The RNI is committed to transforming the lives of people with neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric conditions through innovation, compassion, and science-driven care. Individuals with psychiatric conditions face significant barriers to care in rural America, which are particularly acute in West Virginia and the broader Appalachian region. To advance this mission, the Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry seeks to establish an Endowed Chair in Psychiatry & Neurodevelopment, with a specific focus on addressing these disparities and improving outcomes for individuals with neuropsychiatric conditions, including ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Vision & Purpose Neurodevelopmental conditions, such as ADHD and autism, affect millions of children and families, yet care remains fragmented and inconsistent, particularly in rural America. This endowed position will anchor a comprehensive effort to transform how people with psychiatric and neurodevelopmental conditions are identified, treated, and managed across rural populations from childhood through transitional ages into adulthood. The Endowed Chair will address this gap by leading efforts to: Develop innovative, evidence-based models of care tailored to the unique needs of children and young adults requiring specialized psychiatric and/or neurodevelopmental care Develop care models designed for rural delivery, including telehealth and integrated primary-behavioral health approaches Improve the collaboration and integration of behavioral health, neuroscience, pediatrics, education, and family-centered care Translate research advances into practical, accessible clinical solutions, particularly for individuals in rural and underserved communities across West Virginia and the surrounding region Focus on functional outcomes, such as school performance, occupational performance, emotional regulation, family stability, and long-term independence Driving Innovation and Clinical Impact The Endowed Chair will be a national leader in neurodevelopmental psychiatry, advancing initiatives such as: New treatment and management strategies for ADHD, ASD, and co-occurring conditions that move beyond one-size-fits-all approaches Multidisciplinary programs that address emotional regulation, attention, behavior, learning, and social development Scalable clinical models that can be implemented across WVU Medicine and shared nationally for ADHD, ASD, and related neuropsychiatric conditions By anchoring innovation within the clinical environment, the Chair ensures that progress is measured not only by publications, but by meaningful and functional improvements in rural communities. Innovation will be measured by improved access, better outcomes, and reduced burden on families. Impact for West Virginia and Beyond Through the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, WVU Medicine is uniquely positioned to serve as a national model for neurodevelopmental care—particularly for rural and medically underserved populations. The Endowed Chair will: Expand access to high-quality, specialized care for children and families across the region Reduce disparities in diagnosis, treatment, and long-term outcomes Train and mentor the next generation of clinicians and leaders in behavioral health with a specific focus on recruitment and retention of high-quality providers Elevate WVU Medicine’s national profile in psychiatry and neurodevelopmental care. The Endowed Chair in Psychiatry & Neurodevelopment at WVU Medicine RNI will shape the future of care for ADHD, autism, and related conditions by transforming how individuals are supported, how families are guided, and how communities thrive.
