About The Position

Performs the functions of teaching, research or creative activities, and service and are assigned to an academic unit appropriate for their Discipline descriptor. The University of Mississippi invites applications for the inaugural Ronnie and Melody Musgrove Endowed Chair in Special Education. This prestigious position honors former Mississippi Governor Ronnie Musgrove, a lifelong advocate for education, and his late wife, Dr. Melody Musgrove, a former faculty member in the School of Education who held numerous leadership roles in education at the state and national levels. Tenure Track Faculty members perform the functions of teaching, research or creative activities, and service and are assigned to an academic unit appropriate for their Discipline descriptor. Tenure Track Faculty members are usually hired as assistant professors and enter the tenure track. For example, an assistant professor must serve a probationary period of five years and be reviewed for tenure during his or her sixth year of continuous employment at the University. Tenure Track Faculty members may be hired, particularly at the associate and full ranks, with a reduction in the tenure probationary period, as explained in the Tenure Policy. Tenure Track Faculty members at the Associate and Full ranks are full members of the Graduate Faculty, while those at the Assistant rank are Associate Members of the Graduate Faculty. Requirements

  • Earned doctorate and substantial experience in the field of special education.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in special education, with demonstrated impact in academic, policy, or leadership roles
  • Proven ability to lead initiatives that result in meaningful and lasting contributions to the field
  • Strong record of scholarship, teaching, or policy work relevant to special education

Nice To Haves

  • K-12 and post-secondary teaching experience preferred.
