About The Position

The Instructor of Special Education requires collaborating with the Coordinator of Clinical Partnerships and program faculty in establishing of residency sites and the process of matching of mentors with residents across Northwest Arkansas. Thus, this position requires someone who is understanding of school and district structures, systems, and cultures and can maneuver these adeptly. Further, this position requires direct supervision of residents applying their knowledge of high leverage and evidence based instructional methods and curriculum decisions. The Instructor of Special Education will be expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

Requirements

• An earned Masters from a nationally recognized university in Special Education conferred by the start of employment
• Experience as a licensed special educator across grade levels
• Completion of Science of Reading Proficiency Credential
• Experience in leadership roles in K-12 US Schools and/or Districts in support of students with disabilities
• Familiarity with clinical models of teacher preparation

Nice To Haves

• Documented evidence of successful teaching at College/University level on special education instructional methods
• Experience as school/district level instructional and/or supervisory role for teachers of students with disabilities
• Specialized training in assessment and instructional methods for students with specific learning disabilities (e.g., Qualified Instructor Training, Certified Academic Language Therapist)
• At least five years of experience in special education across roles
• Documentation of ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment

Responsibilities

• teach graduate and undergraduate level courses in special education on campus, online, and in immersive field placements such as Professional Development Schools
• lead, mentor, and oversee the supervision of residents and student teacher candidates in K-12 settings
• teach courses in curriculum, pedagogy, and classroom management
• participate in student advisement and mentoring, including service on undergraduate and graduate student advisory committees
• provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession
• Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
