About The Position

The University of Louisville School of Medicine invites applications for the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences. The School seeks a Chair to lead the clinical, scientific and educational programs of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, with an emphasis on expanding the excellence, diversity, and collaboration within the School and with our partners. The Chair is responsible for overseeing strategy, finance, and operations of the Department. The Chair will provide Academic and Clinical leadership in the development of clinical centers of excellence, inspire and guide groundbreaking clinical, translational and basic research, and will be responsible for the planning and guidance of clinical psychiatry efforts within the UofL Health system. UofL Health is a fully integrated regional academic health system with five hospitals, four outpatient medical centers, and nearly 200 physician practice locations. It is the third largest healthcare provider in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and is focused on delivering outstanding clinical care, providing cutting edge clinical research, and offering a supportive educational environment to our learners. The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is comprised of 21 full-time faculty, 2 part-time faculty, 42 housestaff , and 2 fellowship positions with 2 Endowed Chairs. The Department’s clinical programs have continued to expand. In addition to general psychiatry, there are programs in memory disorders, geropsychiatry, women's mental health, psycho-oncology, telepsychiatry and addictions and the department is actively developing new programs in cooperation with UofL Health Peace Hospital, a psychiatric hospital serving children, adolescents, and adults . The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences includes the University of Louisville Depression Center and is one of only fourteen founding members of the National Network of Depression Centers. The Department has an active outpatient clinic located in the UofL Health outpatient center. Faculty provide inpatient Psychiatry care at University of Louisville Hospital, Norton Hospital, and Peace Hospital. Our research faculty members are committed to researching better treatments, prevention strategies and cures for psychiatric and neuropsychiatric disorders. Faculty members are active in clinical trials and work collaboratively with other departments across the School of Medicine on research endeavors, with a desire among faculty to increase grant funding. Requirements

  • M.D. or M.D/Ph.D. degree
  • a record of clinical leadership, educational excellence, research discovery, and scholarship which would merit appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure
  • board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
  • proven record of financial and operational leadership, relationship management, strong teaching, clinical, mentoring and research advancement
  • demonstrated administrative experience, academic leadership, and the ability to engender intellectual diversity and cultural richness
  • committed to patient care, research discovery, faculty development, and the education of medical students, residents and fellows
  • submit a curriculum vitae, a cover letter specifically addressing research, teaching, and leadership/vision that highlight specific strengths, including previous administrative experience and accomplishments, research interests and plans, teaching interests and experience with personnel management
  • provide the names and contact information of four references
