About The Position

The Therapist Psych ED I works under the supervision of the Clinical Services Manager to provide quality therapeutic services for patients and their families including individual, family, and group therapy, assessment, conducts preadmission screening evaluations, treatment planning, safety planning as part of discharge planning, coordination of placement in appropriate level of care, and documentation, in order to reduce or eliminate psychological, behavioral, or chemical dependency problems that necessitated admission. Actively performs as a member of an interdisciplinary team and demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide clinical care appropriate to the age of the patient or resident served.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree, Healthcare related field, such as Social Work, Sociology, Education, Counseling, Psychology, or related field (Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 30 Days(Required)
  • First Aid - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 30 Days(Required)
  • LMHP-Resident (LMHP-R) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) within 90 Days(Required) or LMHP-Supervisee (LMHP-S) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) within 90 Days(Required)
  • Care Management Discharge Planning - American Case Management Association (ACMA) within 90 Days(Required)
  • Certified Preadmission Screening - Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Development Services (DBHDS) within 90 Days(Required)
  • Therapy Supervision - Virginia Board of Counseling or Social Work within 90 Days(Required)

  • 2 years Clinical internship in a hospital or residential setting or clinical experience (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Accurately assesses biopsychosocial functioning of assigned patients and residents by using effective interviewing skills, behavioral observation, mental health assessment skills, and collateral sources of information.
  • Synthesizes information into a written document that provides valuable information for treatment planning.
  • Completes Diagnostic Summaries as assigned.
  • Provides quality and clinically sound individual, family, and group therapy interventions based on assessed needs that are appropriate for age, stage of development, and level of functioning.
  • Serves as the point of contact for family members and assures they are active participants in the treatment process with patient consent.
  • Provides education for families on suicidality, diagnosis, and plan of care as appropriate.
  • Addresses patient/family questions and issues.
  • Collaborates as an active member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Communicates patient and family needs to team members, integrates clinical interventions with the plan of care, and evaluates progress on objectives.
  • Actively participates in team meetings.
  • Completes individualized, thorough medical record documentation according to RBHC policy.
  • Individual, family and group therapy progress notes completed on date that service is provided.
  • Completes safety planning as part of discharge planning, with recommendations for outpatient services or other community supports with thorough documentation.
  • Coordinates referral process for patients requiring a different level of care or who do not meet admission criteria for the facility.
  • Maximizes use of clinical supervision and apprises Manager/Director of complex or problematic clinical issues.
  • Establishes and maintains solid relationships with referral sources, agency personnel, and community providers.
  • Takes on additional work and/or assists others in the completion of their work during periods of high census and heavy workloads.
  • Uses non-patient care time in productive ways to benefit the facility.
  • Completes preadmission screening evaluations for purposes of Temporary Detention Order.
