Develops and implements category strategies that enable UPS to procure goods and services within assigned categories at the best overall cost of ownership and best value. Subject matter expert within assigned category with a deep understanding of spend, savings, market intelligence, supplier metrics, and other performance indicators important to internal stakeholders. Engages with internal business stakeholders and suppliers to drive continuous improvement and optimize the supplier base. Plays a leading role in negotiations and supplier relationship management. Verifies that all sourcing initiatives meet category-specific regulations, follow appropriate risk mitigation protocols, and ensures that specific contingencies for the assigned category are in place. Provides specific functional expertise that is theoretical and conceptual in nature. This expertise is typically acquired through a combination of university education and experience within a field. May have responsibility for supervising others in the capacity of a “player coach” but primary focus is individual expertise. Applies working knowledge of theories, practices, and/or procedures within job discipline. Broadens capabilities and understanding of the company processes, and customers. Performs mostly routine assignments and resolves common issues by using precedents or seeking guidance. Assesses straightforward problems and proposes solutions based on analysis of factual information, experience, judgment, and precedents. Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team. Shares factual information with other team members. Receives guidance on a regular basis. Entry-level to UPS’s professional career track. Typically requires a four-year degree or equivalent experience.
